School photos

A press release confirming that the Data Protection Act does not prevent family and friends from taking photographs at school concerts or plays has been issued by the Information Commissioner’s Office. It says that a common sense approach is needed and emphasises that photographs simply taken for the family album are exempt from data protection laws. Revised guidance for schools and local authorities was published in June 2010 concerning photography in educational institutions which said it was unlikely that the Data Protection Act would apply in most situations where photographs are taken by parents in schools.
