Identity Documents Bill receives Royal Assent

Royal Assent has been given to the Identity Documents Bill which becomes the Identity Documents Act 2010 and repeals the Identity Cards Act 2006. The Act makes provision to cancel all UK ID cards within one month and to destroy the National Identity Register, the database which contains information of card holders, within two months.
