Rules for internet service providers (ISPs) regarding copyright infringement are likely to come into force early in 2012. Copyright holders will pay 75% of the costs and ISPs 25%. However, the requirement for ISPs to contribute towards the costs of Ofcom and an independent appeals body have been removed. A £20 appeals fee will apply. Ofcom has investigated the practicability of site-blocking as a way of combating copyright infringement and as a result of its findings site-blocking regulations will not be imposed for the time being.
