TalkTalk billing fine

Ofcom has fined TalkTalk Telecom Limited and its subsidiary Tiscali UK Limited £3 million for incorrectly billing tens of thousands of consumers for services they had not received. Ofcom regulations state, not surprisingly, that communications providers must not send inaccurate bills to customers. TalkTalk and Tiscali remedied the breach by issuing customer refunds and had taken steps to comply with the regulations. However, the fine was still imposed because further bills were issued incorrectly after the end of the permitted remedy period.
