Virgin aircraft seats immoveable

The Intellectual Property Office has refused to remove a European patent owned by Virgin and covering aircraft seats, from the UK patents register. This patent has been the subject of opposition from the European Patent Office (EPO) and of UK litigation between Virgin and Premium. Premium had argued that the patent should not have been issued because Virgin made no GB designation in the original application. However this argument was rejected by the EPO Examining Division. The UK hearing officer held that the IPO had no jurisdiction to review the determination made by the EPO.
