Press cutting case

The Copyright Tribunal has given an interim decision in the dispute about copyright between a media monitoring service and the Newspaper Licensing Agency. This follows a decision by the Court of Appeal that public relations agencies infringed newspaper copyright when they used the media monitoring service. The NLA has two licensing schemes: one for media monitoring organisations and the other for end-users of monitoring services. The tribunal said that an end-user licence was necessary but it reduced the NLA’s proposed licence fee by 90%.
