The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry has published its annual digital music report giving a comprehensive overview and analysis of global digital music. Digital music saw unprecedented global expansion in 2011 and key steps were taken to help tackle digital piracy. Major international digital music services are now present in 58 countries, compared to only 23 up to the start of 2011. Digital revenues grew by 8% and digital-music platforms now account for about 32% of recorded music revenue (compared to 29% in 2010). However piracy remains a big problem with 28% of internet users accessing unauthorised services each month. On the positive side, action on piracy is gaining momentum.
