Commercial use of consumer data

On 27 January 2015, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) issued a call for information in relation to the commercial use of consumer data.

The CMA wants to gather information to further its understanding about the use of consumer data in the UK economy. In particular, it wants to clarify the benefits resulting from the collection and use of consumer data.

It also wants to understand the potential for this to generate concerns, in terms of competition and consumer protection.

The CMA invites responses to the call for information by 6 March 2015. On the basis of the information provided and other research, the CMA intends to publish its findings, identifying what if any further action is needed, in summer 2015.
